what happened?

Right, so all of you are wondering what I'm always blabbing about on the index page in the first paragraph? Well have I got the solution for you both! Here, I will keep a little archive of what I've written in exactly that paragraph. For your reading pleasure, I will try to put everyhthing on here one month at a time. The oldest post of the month will be at the top. When you have no idea what I'm talking about, go back a few days and everything should become clear. Whenever I think it's worth it, I'll add a link to the more interesting things I mention. Try to expect not too many links.

2 - Tuesday - 23:12 Eelco is back in Holland, which is good, but not
for him, since he misses Japan. School
life is beginning again here in Leiden, with
my agenda slowly starting to fill up. Also,
I'm going to start teaching about four different
classes from this week on. First things first though,
because tomorrow is the Tanuki camp, which
I'll visit also. That should be a lot of fun.
|
4 - Thursday - 23:15 Right, hello, it's been a while. I've been to
the Tanuki camp, of which I told you about
two days ago. Wouter was there,
and that was mainly the reason why it was
so much fun. We threw around his frisbee,
built a nice bonfire, played around with the
new students, and had quite a lot of beer
throughout all these activities. All in the sun, pretty good I'd say.

6 - Saturday - 00:16 Today, I've gone out of my way and bought
a new tv. Together with Tim and Eelco, I
walked around Leiden in search of that one
tv which would be within my budget and
desires. Notice the little Yamanote line
model on the top, I got that from Eelco.
We've put the tv to good use immediately by
playing games on it, mostly the Great, the Only, Perfect Dark.
|
6 - Saturday - 21:29 After cooking and eating dinner today, I watched
some tv downstairs. I fell asleep for just short
of half an hour, and when I woke up, it came to
me. Why not watch tv in my own room, with my
new tv, on my own couch? That's much more
comfortable anyway. Today has been rather
slow, but good. I played a lot on my Nintendo
Gamecube, and even got some work done.

7 - Sunday - 16:02 Today, the second season of '24' will start in
Holland. I can recommend this to everyone, but
not if you haven't seen the first season. You'd miss
a lot of information I think. Today's been kinda good.
I talked with Tim, and we made an appointment for
tomorrow, for some good old-fashioned gaming.
I've been playing Metroid Prime today, which still
is such a good game, it's scary.
|
8 - Monday - 01:17 So here I am, in my little room, doin this transcription
and translation job for NHK, Japan's public broadcasting
company. Work for professional television, and I'm
using this really old taperecorder, listening to tapes
and trying to figure out what the people on them
are saying. When this is going on air, a lot of people
are going to watch it, and it's just such an unreal
feeling that I'm helping create the program, alone, in a tiny room, with an old taperecorder...

|
9 - Tuesday - 01:19 Whew, what a night. Tim and I got together for a
good old fashioned day of gaming. Starting off with
the Great Perfect Dark, we continued with the
exorbitantly good Metroid Prime, which we
continued to do for a long long time. We probably
cruised through half of the game within one day.
Next up was Marvel vs Capcom 2, which had been
a long time for the both of us, since our time in Huis ten Bosch. We had chips too, of course.
|
9 - Tuesday - 23:15 Seriously, is it normal to keep a phone ringing
for more than 15 times!? I stopped counting at
10, and after a a while, when it still didn't end, I
decided to pick it up, seeing the party on the other
end was STUPID enough to not assume there wasn't
anyone at home. Of course there was, but that's
really not the point. I won't go into details about
who it was, but some of you know anyway.

|
10 - Wednesday - 10:45 Yesterday, I was playing on my keyboard, and
I got into this music writing mood. So I contacted
Raymond, a music playing friend of mine, who plays
in a big band, and asked if I could do an arrangement
for them. That was okay, so I immediately started
arranging the great song 'When it's sleepy time down
south'. I'm trying to get it to sound like a big band version
of the take Dave Brubeck did on his Southern Scene album.
|
11 - Thursday - 16:08 Classes started again, and it was quite funny to
see the look on my professor's face when he realized
that I still had to do his class. I should have done
that a long time ago, but it just never happened.
Ah well, in any case it was a lot of fun being at my
university again, I don't want to quit being a student
just yet! Before I forget though, let me take this
opportunity to say thank you to Aya and Takuro.

|
12 - Friday - 08:08 And so another day is beginning, but I noticed how
early it is! This is strange though, because yesterday
I was awake at the same time, but I had considerably
less difficulties with waking up. Well, probably nothing
a good gallon of coffee can't handle, so I'll try
something like that. If all is well, it's going to be a
pretty busy day today, with university, work, and
even a party afterwards! Let's see how it goes...
|
12 - Friday - 16:22 What a great day it's been already! I met Mischa, who
I hadn't seen for a couple of years! While I'm writing
this, Tim and Niels are in my room, playing the
wonderful Mario Kart. The battle mode, of course.
Tim has won a couple of times, but so has Niels,
so they're formidable opponents to eachother.
Oh, I also met Neil and Patrick, which has been
a while also. Right click and save here for a Mario Kart Movie!

|
23 - Tuesday - 02:09 ELEVEN DAYS!? Please, come on! What could a person
do in eleven days? I'm truly sorry that I haven't
updated this site in such a long time. Installing
a new windows wasn't the smoothest thing that ever
happened. In the near future, expect a lot of updates,
accompanied by many pictures and movies, because
I've got a new digital camera! Too much has happened
to describe here, so that will be lost in history...
But it's been good, and I'm sure some of it will turn
up on this page!
|
23 - Tuesday - 13:07 So what exactly did happen the last couple
of days? Well, for one, Jasper Bulk is back in
Holland, and everybody's been jumping about
that. Also, I did a lot of work for NHK, and with
the cash I made from that, I bought myself
some new clothes, including a great and classy
suit, just because it was so cool. I made a new
friend, Aya, who quickly became my Japanese
little sister in Holland. More updates will follow
soon though, and I hope with more pictures.
|
| |
|
23 - Tuesday - 18:47 And furthermore, three of my friends graduated
last week! Ad, Sumit and Dean all finished
Japanese and got their Master's degree.
We had a great time afterwards, celebrating
the big day in Leiden with a lot of friends
and family. Ad's sister was also there, and
that's always a sign that it's going to be a
great evening. Wouter, Marije, Justus and
I played 'Kolonisten van Katan', a cool board
game, and today I met Aya and Anika!
|
24 - Wednesday - 00:23 Also, school has been going on, and this
year is turning out to be a good one once
again. Not only have Tim and Jasper, Mischa
and a lot of others joined us again, the
classes are fun, and it's just all around
nice to be at the Arsenal again. A few
people have left, and a lot of people have
joined us, only fueling the thought that
university life is just as cyclical as I thought.
Expect more pictures from my new camera soon!

|
24 - Wednesday - 19:23 Great! I've been working today, and I also
went for a beer with Jasper, who was at
my room this afternoon. I still have some
work to do, but when that's finished, we
have this little plan to go to Leiden and
consume more beer. Or anything else, it's
all the same to us. Or maybe it isn't, but
our goal is to have fun. Work is almost done
by the way, and tomorrow I'll teach again,
wearing my brand new, ultra-cool suit.
|
25 - Thursday - 08:13 Now what a way to wake up. You know,
just totally feeling like you don't really
want to do... anything. Bulk's sleeping
now, he stayed at my room for the night,
seeing it was too late already for him to
go home, the buses had stopped going already.
We were at van der Werff's yesterday, followed
by Einstein, 't Keizertje, and they didn't
accept us anymore at de Kroeg, because
it was too late already. Hap Yam was good though.
|
| |
|
25 - Thursday - 15:30 Classes in the morning, work in the
afternoon, and in the evening, more
work. But that's good. Work is a lot of
actually, I really enjoy the things I do
for money. Now what more does one
want? The morning was kinda sucky
though. Not only was I really tired, the
airheaded manga freaks were a big pain
in the bum again. Ah well, we can always
ignore them or make fun of them.
|
26 - Friday - 11:38 When work was done last night, I went
back to Leiden, to Takuro's place, where
Jasper also was having a good time.
Aya was there, as were Ijsbrandt and
Rene. When I got there, I was pretty
hungry, and man was I surprised when
Takuro offered me some fine home-made
Japanese 'okonomiyaki'. It was very,
very good. I was there for a short while
afterwards, but since I almost fell to sleep, I went home.
|
| |
|
27 - Saturday - 03:06 It kind of was a slow day. I had classes,
that's not it of course, but after all the
work (ahem) I did, it just felt really slow and easy.
In the evening, I was talking to Aya and Takuro,
using webcams, mics and what not, and
we decided to go to van der Werff's.
Takuro was there, and also Ijsbrandt
and Rene. The ladies were represented
by Yasuyo and Aya. We had a couple of
drinks, dicussed important plans, and took a group picture.
|
28 - Sunday - 01:49 I booked a ticket to London tonight, and
I'll be going there in about 2 weeks or so.
You know, nothing much really happened
today. Jasper asked me if I wanted to go
out to drink, and although that sounded
really good, the prospect of first having
to go outside and sit in a train really wasn't
at all that exciting, so I didn't. Tomorrow I'll
try and clean up my room. I also have a
huge pile of laundry to do. It never stops...

|
28 - Sunday - 23:35 Right at this very moment, ladies and
gentlemen, boys and girls, Eelco Hoenselaar
is sitting on my couch. In my room. Why
this honor? Well, for one thing, we installed
the Japanese Windows XP Pro on my
computer, and it's smoother than a
greasy fat man covered in oil during
that weird tomato throwing festival they
have in spain. In the rain. But anyway,
here's a picture of Eelco. Not the smooth pc.
|
30 - Tuesday - 10:41 Yesterday, I went out for a drink with Jasper
and my Japanese sister Aya. We
had a great time, drinking beer and eating
shoarma afterwards. We chilled out with Ad. In the meantime, I'm
getting job offers thrown at me by the
hour it seems. Yesterday and today, I got
greasy fat man covered in oil during
a total of three phonecalls, having to
do with four separate job offers. Too
bad I just don't have the time for all of them!
|
| |
|
30 - Tuesday - 23:59 I ordered the first and second seasons
of the Fox series '24' yesterday. I'm sure
that I'll like them, because it's one of the
series that has me staying home just to
watch the show. If you haven't seen it,
it stars Kiefer Sutherland, everything
happens in real-time, it's really, really
tense, and for me, I just like the stories
told in the series. I can't wait for the DVDs
to arrive, in just over a week of time.
